Ready to Become a Mentor?

We have many students throughout the Syracuse City School District that would greatly benefit from the support and guidance of a Mentor. Our overall mission is to foster meaningful and intentional relationships with students who want and need a mentor in their lives that can support them academically, socially and emotionally. This school-based mentoring program is looking for volunteers to mentor SCSD students in grades 6 through 12. All we require of our mentors is a commitment of one hour per week for a minimum of 12 months. The SCSD will provide a mentor training session for all potential new mentors before they are matched with a student. After the training session and background check, the mentors can begin making a difference in the lives of our students.

Our Goal

The goal of the Syracuse City School District Mentoring Program is to provide an adult mentor to all SCSD students who would like one, beginning in the sixth grade.  The mentoring program is active across the SCSD in every middle school.  There is a unique blend of mentoring opportunities available through numerous established partnerships including those with 100 Black Men, Syracuse University's DEAL mentoring program at Clary, Lockheed Martin, and the CCAMP-H.W. Smith mentoring program through SRC, Inc.

To volunteer, receive additional information or enroll a student  call 315 / 435-4655.  This program is free of charge.

This SCSD volunteer program is designed to recruit, train and assign volunteers to work in schools across the Syracuse City School District.  The volunteer program supports and encourages parental and community involvement in our schools.  Please join us in transforming the Syracuse City School District and volunteer today!  The volunteer application can be found here.
