Superintendent's Message - 10/5/18

I am proud to announce that three SCSD teachers have been named NYS Master Teachers! These teachers receive an annual stipend for four years to engage in peer mentoring and teacher training. They are recognized not just for their innovative teaching but also for their involvement in their school community beyond their classroom walls, serving as club advisors, coaches and more. Congratulations to Beth Walsh (HW Smith), Bobby Kunnath (ITC) and William Bondi (Henninger) on this honor!

In case you missed it, I appeared on Newschannel 9’s Newsmakers segment with Dan Cummings recently, where I spoke about the 2018-19 school year, our new strategic plan and more. I encourage you to take a moment to watch, if you haven’t already.

On Thursday, fourth graders at Seymour enjoyed a special treat as Lockheed Martin volunteers visited their classes. The staff helped guide scholars through team-building science activities, and this was a great way to help our students expand their interest in #SCSDSTEM!

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features Webster and Frazer scholars cheering on bikers in the Ride for Missing and Exploited Children, homecoming pep rallies at Nottingham and PSLA at Fowler, a back to school BBQ at Franklin, enrichment activities at Westside Academy at Blodgett, a resume and cover letter workshop at ITC, Danforth students visiting Orenda Springs for trust and team-building exercises, curriculum nights at PSLA and ELMS and more.

Finally, tonight, our Corcoran Athletic Hall of Fame will be gaining several new members! I hope to see many of you at the Corcoran vs. CBA football game at 6 pm at the Corcoran stadium… a ceremony at halftime will recognize the new Hall of Fame inductees.

Sincerely,
Jaime
